Committees

Supporting the Executive Board are dozens of committees and coordinators.

• Assitant Treasurer

  Shadows current Treasurer and assumes lead role the following school year.
• Audit Committee

  2-4 persons from general PTO membership (who have not handled funds on behalf of the PTO). Responsible for overseeing PTO finances to ensure that assets are safeguarded and finances are managed in a business-like manner. Duties include quarterly review of bank reconciliation and annual audit of PTO financial statements (or hiring of independent auditors.)
• Books from the Heart Coordinators

  Lara Clark, Jen Atwood

  Work with Chickering librarian to prepare and distribute books, schedule volunteers for sales, and to communicate this event school wide.
• Community Events Coordinators

  Help lead several key Chickering and Dover community events including Back to School Picnic and Dover Days.
• Community Service Coordinators

  Identify opportunities for community service (e.g. donations of items, money and/or time).

  Works with Special Education Department to provide program that educates students on impact of various learning limitations.
• Directory Committee

  Prepares and distributes annual PTO school directory. Computer skills necessary.
• Dover Days Committee

  Works with the Dover Days Coordinator to plan and organize the PTO games booth at the annual Dover Days fair in September. Secures rentals of games, purchases prizes, and trains volunteers. Assists with set up and clean up.
• Easy $ for Chickering Coordinator

  Beth Wyers

  Manages collection of items that support "Easy Money for Chickering."
• Fifth Grade Continuation Organizing Committee

  Organizes and manages fifth grade celebrations.

  Works with Fundraising Chairs to plan and host annual spring fundraising event for Chickering community.
• Health, Wellness & Sustainability Task Force

  Works to make the Chickering lunchroom healthy and "green." Manages the waste free lunch program; trains, coordinates and oversees parent volunteers; and identifies ways to help Chickering reduce, reuse, and recycle.
• Library Coordinator

  Coordinates volunteers for the school library.
• METCO Host Family Committee

  Anne Nolen, Meg Field, Michelle Blakeney

  Assigns host families to every Metco family and serves as liaison to Metco families. Also coordinates activities throughout the year to facilitate relationships within the community.
• Monday Enrichment Coordinator

  Sue Hackney

  Assists Chickering administration with registration and logistics of the Monday Enrichment Program, which enhances curriculum taught in the classroom. Coordinates volunteers to assist with the program as needed on Monday afternoons.
• New Family Coordinators

  Welcome new parents to the Chickering Community. Facilitates communications with working parents. Brainstorms on ways to better connect new and working parents with Chickering and Dover PTO.
• Outdoor Classroom Coordinator

  Works with Chickering leadership to plan and develop Chickering’s outdoor learning environment.
• Playground Coordinators

  Kristen Dummer, Sona Shuermann

  Work with Chickering staff on playground guidelines, organizes playground volunteers and procures ancillary equipment.
• Room Parent Coordinator

  Martha DePaola

  Helps develop selection criteria, then selects and coordinates two room parents per classroom. Manages PTO Emergency Phone Tree.
• School Picture Coordinator

  Lisa Turo

  Manages vendor relationship and coordinates picture-day volunteers.
• Speaker Series Coordinator

  Identifies relevant topics and schedules speakers for parent meetings.
• Staff Appreciation Committee

  Marisa Chiaruttini, Martha DePaola, Kathy Sveen

  Organizes and hosts PTO-sponsored staff appreciation functions throughout the year, including monthly luncheons, conference night dinners and conference week snacks, teacher appreciation week treats, and the annual bus driver appreciation breakfast.
• Symphony Series Coordinator

  Plans, administers and attends one BSO concert for families.
• Used Book Sale/Swap Committee
