Funded Initiatives

Here is how we put your donated dollars to work in 2010-2011.

  • Classroom Support

    The PTO awarded in $7497.90 in direct funds to teachers for classroom spending and classroom library improvements. Each teacher receives $350 in classroom support each year upon request.

  • Teacher Grants

    Each year the PTO provides grant money to Chickering through a grant application process. In 2010- 2011, a total of $10,870 was awarded in grant money. This included: - Humidity regulators, bell kits, and percussion kits for the Music Department - Interactive whiteboards which can be shared between Kindergarten Classrooms - Display racks for the Art Department - 6 iPods which can record students speaking for the Library Department - 26 Wacom Bamboo pens for animation purposes for the Technology Department

  • Direct Funding

    The PTO directly funds school enhancement projects. In the past year a total of $15,538 was spent on the following items: - $7493 Instrument Storage Bins - $3835 Choral Risers - $4210 PTO contribution to the Mosaic Mural

  • Curriculum Enrichment

    We provided $34,860 to bring the following programs to Chickering in 2010-11:

    Kindergarten: Wingmasters, Big Joe Storyteller, Emilie Boon

    First Grade: Audubon Walks Suzanne Bloom, Marty Kelly, Bug Works, Kids Roller Coaster science lab

    Second Grade: Dinoman, Brian Lies, Dave Epstein, meteorologist, Understanding our Differences, Potato Hill Poetry

    Third Grade: Suzy Kline, Wampanoag Indians, Techsploration science lab, Paul Revere House, The Recorder Goes to School

    Fourth Grade: Ted Scheu, Jeff Kelly, Maps, Dave Epstein & Plantmobile

    Fifth Grade: Lincoln Labs, Cry Innocent, Matt Noyes & weather,Jackie Davies, Colonial Instruments, Bay Colony Educators

    School Wide Program: Odeiko N. E. Japanese Drummers

  • Staff Appreciation

    In 2010-2011, $2760 was spent on staff appreciation programs including monthly lunches, dinners and snacks on conference days/nights.

  • Chickering Community

    In 2010-2011, the PTO funded $8370 for programs for the community. This included: - Outdoor Classroom maintenance - Back to School Picnic - PTO Key Tags - Grade 5 Celebration - New Family Night - METCO Events - Playground Equipment - Fish Tank Maintenance - Parent Coffees - Community Outreach - Speakers - SEPAC
