ABOUT THE DOVER PTO

Welcome to the Dover PTO

The Dover Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) represents all parents, teachers and staff of Chickering School. Our mission is to support Chickering policies and practices by strengthening the Chickering community.

We do this by:

  1. Facilitating cooperation and communication between parents, students and staff

  2. Providing a source of volunteer services to the school

  3. Raising money which goes directly to Chickering projects, including:

  • Curriculum enrichment (40-45%)

  • Teacher/classroom support (40-45%)

  • Chickering community (10%)

Other groups (separate from the Dover PTO) that are also integral to the success of Chickering include:

The Dover School Committee (DSC), which works with the Dover-Sherborn Superintendent to set all Chickering school policy and is responsible for academic excellence, financial responsibility, school administration and management, innovation, professional development and community/parent satisfaction.

The School Advisory Council (SAC), which assists the principal in adopting educational goals and developing the state-mandated School Improvement Plan.  SAC brings together four educators, four parents and one community member to work with the Chickering principal to shape the school’s practices and programs.

The Dover Sherborn Education Fund (DSEF), a community vehicle for annual giving to district-wide public education. Through nonprofit community fundraising, DSEF grants are made to the K-12 Dover-Sherborn School District (including DSHS, DSMS, Pine Hill and Chickering) to enhance arts, athletics and cultural enrichment as well as core academic curriculum, beyond that provided by the tax base.

Our Philosophy

The Dover Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) represents all parents, teachers administration and and support staff of Chickering School. Our mission is to support and strengthen the Chickering community through hands-on volunteers, curriculum enrichment, teacher/classroom support, fundraising and PTO sponsored community events.

Our History

The Dover PTO has a long history of fostering cooperation and communication between parents, students, staff and the greater community. We provide ways for parents to meet with one another and with representatives of the school to consider matters of common interest affecting the students and the school.
